What is going on with TV right now
Ok I know that we don't have to make any more post, but I got to right about this. Right now I am watching some TV and multiple times on a few different channels I have seen the finger shown several times without being blurred out and several swears not censored out. Now I really don't care that much, but am just surprised that the channels were able to convince the FCC to allow them to show this stuff. Here I was thinking that the FCC was stricter than strict with their rules and regulations. I just hope that they have finally decided to let up some and let more to slide by that is put on the radio and TV.

Christmas
So it is the Christmas season once again. I always enjoy this time of year because it gives me a time to relax and get to hand with my friends and family. The only thing that I have really started to realize is how commercial this time of year is. I mean I understand why the stores and other companies are doing so much advertising because of the holidays and people are spending a lot of money, but what about the real reason for this time of year. When I say this I don't mean the stereotypical stuff, but what I mean is the actual reasons for the holidays. Like Hanukkah and Christmas which each have a religious background which from what I have seen that religious background takes a backseat to the more commercialized season. I mean yes for those that don't celebrate the religious part of the holidays it may all be fun and good, but for those that share a belief in the religious background so why would they pay such attention to the commercialized side of the holiday. With this realization I really am going to try and follow my beliefs more and hopefully not follow along with all the commercials and advertisements that are flying around this season.

Scrubs
So I don't know if anyone has noticed but Scrubs is back. Now what I thought was that after last season this show was going to be done. I mean I am not complaining because it is a good show. Yet after they said that the show was ending did they change their minds because of its good ratings? I always find it really confusing when people say one things and then do another. The only thing that I do have to say about the new season is that it is not as good as past episodes because a lot of the original characters/actors are not in the series, or just have not made an appearance yet. I just hope that the series doesn't tank after this season.

Black Friday
So tomorrow is Black Friday, probably the craziest shopping day of the year where we see so many advertisements for everything we could ever want. A day where there are tons of sales and tons of stores that carry the many items that you will be giving out as gifts on Christmas. Well if there are any conspiracy theorists reading this you may enjoy this, but from a conversation that occurred in my Myth and Culture class yesterday it turns out that Black Friday was purposely developed by the President, which one I can't exactly remember. The story that our professor told us was that originally Thanksgiving used to be scheduled to be on the last Thursday in November by Lincoln, but a future President redefined it to occur on the 3rd Thursday of November so as to add an extra week to the Christmas shopping time so that the economy could get a boost. Now I am not sure how much of it is true, for all I know it could be 100% true or 100% false, all I know is that with the creation of Black Friday also came the creation of the biggest advertised shopping day of the year. In closing I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and to those brave enough to go near a shopping mall tomorrow all I have to say is good luck.

No Rest For the Wicked
So I am sure that many of you remember that youtube video that we had to watch of Katy Perry lip-sync. Well there recently came out a video game called Borderlands and the opening song to it is Cage the Elephant's No Rest for the Wicked. Now every time I hear that song on the radio the opening cut scene for the video game starts playing in my head. Yet I can't complain because unlike that terrifying youtube video. So all of this got me thinking about how when we hear a song or something go along with a video or some sort of message that other item(s) in a way gets subliminally placed within our subconscious in my opinion. Another thing that has happened was sometime ago I was listening to the radio and the DJ mentioned that someone had told him that the background sound in a song sounded like ducks and from then on that is all he could really hear in the background of the song. He then said over the radio for the listeners to listen to the song and try not to hear the ducks. Sadly enough from that point to the present I have been hearing the ducks in the background. Don't worry I won't tell you guys what song it is so that you don't have to deal with the annoying ducks.

Media Can't Get Ennough of Retired Players
So on Veteran's Day I still had to go to my internship out in Newton. I was expecting it to be slower than usual if not about the same. Yet when I got there who else, but Troy Brown was there to use one of the studios so that he could be recorded for an ESPN show. Some time after this got me thinking that even when these big name sports stars are retired the media is still going after them for many different things, whether it be an interview, their opinion on an outcome or future game, etc. You would just think that since they are retired they would get some time to themselves and not really have to worry about dealing with the media so much any more, but I guess that is just the price of fame these days.

Modern Day myths
So as I am typing this up I am in the middle of doing some other homework that is what inspired this particular blog. Anyways as I was reading my book it mentioned how a lot of myths from the past and in the present may actually be a reworking of another culture's myth so as to fit the second culture more correctly. It also mentioned that you can find this a lot in scifi which got me thinking about a TV show called Sanctuary on the Syfy channel which is about this group that protects creatures called abnormals which are the werewolves, faries, Bigfoots, etc. of the world. So I was thinking that for this show the creators must have referenced a lot of other cultures' myths and legends that give details of these mystical magical creatures and had to mold those creatures so that they would fit into the context of the show and would allow the viewers to understand what they are/were. It is actually rather amazing how when you think a story or T show is completely original when in truth it may just be a reformatting/retelling of some other story so that the people of a certain culture can understand it much better.
