Movie Critics and commercials

So I was driving to BSC today and listening to the radio and the DJ mentioned that he had gone to a preview of the new movie "2012" and said how all the critics that were there and others that he had read were not giving the movie a very good review. Now the odd part is about less than a minute later an add came on for the same movie and it had quotes from some critics praising the movie. I do understand that the movie's developers and producers would want to make the movie appear as appealing as they can, but what is the point if every other critic is trashing the movie. It does seem to be understandable as to why only the good reviews are put in the commercials, but if you think about it there may be people who get pissed off when they are expecting to see a great movie when they go to see it, but in stead are disappointed and feel betrayed by the advertisements put out by the studio. I guess you could say that the reason they do this is because you are able to attract more flies with honey than you do vinegar.

  1. I love looking at all of the different reviews that are on the movie commercials and trying to read where they came from. Most of the really good ones like "Best movie in years!" and "Will keep you on the edge of your seat thne whole movie!" are from some no name website that is probably getting paid to say what they say. You can tell how much of a no name they are by how small the text is below the amazing review, hahaha...

  2. What Matt said is very true. Also, I think 2012 is a weird case because some big name critics have liked it because they call it "My kind of garbage" we're they say it's the most entertaining of the big and dumb disaster movies this year. So, it probably has mixed reviews, that's the confusion, but yes, I know what your saying. What I think is pretty cool is the Sam Raimi made Drag Me to Hell to be a film that critics would hate and they ended up liking it.
